Apple Spotlights ‘incredible new app experiences’ for iPhone Duo
Ahead of the iPhone Duo going on sale, Apple this week posted a story to its Newsroom site in which the company highlighted apps optimized for the foldable device. From creativity to streaming to productivity and more, “developers worldwide are taking advantage of the unique capabilities of the first foldable iPhone,” Apple wrote on Thursday.
“New editorial collections for iPhone Duo apps and games will go live on the App Store this Friday, with additional app updates rolling out throughout the year,” Apple said in its announcement. “Apps optimized for iPhone Duo are easy to identify with a Made for iPhone Duo badge on product pages across the storefront.”
Amongst the apps most interesting to me include Flighty, Instagram, Flighty, Lyft, MLB, and my preferred calendar app in Fantastical. These apps are all on my still-in-testing iPhone 18 Pro Max—yes, I’m behind in more ways than one this year—and I’m keen to see how they look and work on the Duo. I don’t have an iPhone Duo, and didn’t pre-order ahead of today’s official launch, so I’m admittedly feeling a bit of FOMO as my friends and peers in the tech media have published their reviews this week. I obviously don’t know if I want a foldable iPhone to serve as my everyday phone, but there are a lot of questions I have regarding accessibility, both in hardware and software—especially in opening and closing the device. Nonetheless, there can be no denying the allure of having a two-in-one phone/iPad-like device; to that point, I’m excited to try Apple Books on the Duo in my quest to get back into recreational reading for pleasure.
One other accessibility tidbit of note is Apple’s plan to badge Duo-optimized apps in the App Store. Particularly affecting cognition, this highlighting will make it much easier to know which apps have been built against the iOS 27.1 SDK for the Duo. The badges will make it more accessible for everyone to know their new phone has the new apps.
