iOS 27.2 Beta 1 Includes ASL Features for FaceTime, Apple TV

Juli Clover reported last week for MacRumors about the new features in iOS 27.2 Beta 1. Among them, which include the redesigned Health app, more Siri AI languages, and more, is the presence of an API for adding ASL to FaceTime calls.

“Back in May, Apple said it would add a new API to FaceTime allowing developers who make sign language interpretation apps to add a human interpreter to an ongoing video call,” Clover wrote on September 16. Clover refers to the company’s announcement on Global Accessibility Awareness Day it would give the videoconferencing feature “a new API allowing sign language interpretation app developers to add a human interpreter to an ongoing video call.”

In other beta news, tech YouTuber Aaron Zollo shared on X over the weekend news of his discovery that iOS 27.2 Beta 1 has a new Sign Language option in the Apple TV app’s settings. In his screenshot, Apple writes in the feature’s description users can watch movies and television shows with sign language interpretation “when available.”
